One of the most popular diving day trips out of Phuket is to the Phi Phi Islands. Phi Phi diving is especially pleasant as there are caves and caverns to explore in the limestone rocks. The Phi Phi Islands are made up of two main islands, one which is inhabited, Ko Phi Phi Don and another highly popular tourist island which is not inhabited, Ko Phi Phi Ley, and a few jagged limestone rocks, such as Koh Bida Nok, Koh Bida Noi, and Bamboo Island . The most popular dive sites are to Bida Nok and Bida Noi, as they are most abundant in interesting plant and animal life.
Another popular Phuket diving day trip is to Shark Point. This is the name for three large limestone peaks emerging from the waters east of Chalong Bay. What makes this a special dive is the sea life that can be seen within the waters. To dive Phuket waters is always interesting, but to get a sneak peek at exotic life forms is even more rewarding.
Scuba diving Phuket is also best experienced at Racha Yai and Racha Noi. Roughly fourteen miles south of Phuket Island, Racha Yai is considered a great place for beginner divers because of its mild terrain. It features a hard coral reef with good visibility. On the other hand, Racha Noi is just south of Racha Yai and has a wider and more striking range of sea life that can be seen by divers. Parts of Racha Noi are also more suited for advanced divers.
Anyone that has seen Titanic has wondered what it might be like to explore a sunken ship. Luckily, with a day trip to the King Cruiser you can do just that. The King Cruiser was a ferry that sank off the coast of the Phi Phi Islands in 1997. Now, inhabited with hoards of sea life, this sunken treasure has proven to be a popular day trip and dive site.
The Anemone Reef is another at the top of the list for divers in and around Phuket. Ten minutes north of Shark Point, this large reef is covered with thousands of purple red sea anemones. However, it may only be enjoyed at certain times of the day because of its location.
If wall diving is on your itinerary, then Koh Doc Mai is the ideal destination for your day trip. Halfway between Phuket and Shark Point, this dive site has various walls and caverns to explore.
With all of these extraordinary places to visit, you will not be a loss of things to do while in Phuket. The most difficult decision will be what to do first!
